Sazerac Rye Whiskey
There's a lot of debate as to whether the whiskey was named for the cocktail or the cocktail was named for the whiskey. Either way, there's no denying that this legendary rye whiskey is inseperable from the classic New Orleans cocktail that bears the same Sazerac name. (Although, just to muddy the waters a little bit, the cocktail can, also, be made with Cognac, in a nod to the city's French heritage - and there is a strong argument that the cocktail was named after the original cognac producer).
Enough of that, if you wanted an argument over something relatively trivial you'd have gone to Twitter (or X, or whatever it's calling itself this week).
Aromas of clove, vanilla, anise and pepper. Subtle notes of candied spices and citrus. The big finish is smooth with hints of licorice. This is classic, spice led, rye whiskey. It's complex and satisfying enough for Jim Murray to have given it 94.5pts.
"Versatile, crisp, and an ideal match for cocktails that also include orange liqueur, as well as its namesake classic cocktail. Light aromas include vanilla and a touch of juicy citrus. Flavors run to bitter orange, dark chocolate and black tea, finishing with a pepper tingle. Velvety feel, despite the brisk alcohol. Best Buy." Wine Enthusiast - 95pts
