Case of the Month: April
The speed at which certain things are moving as we 're-position' ourselves as an online wine merchants has delayed the announcement of our case of the month for April. Never fear though, as it is finally here! (I promise that the rhyming was entirely unintentional). In this post I have taken the opportunity to introduce the wines in our standard case of the month - a balanced selection of white, rosé and red wines, but there are also white and red only selections for those who have a preference (link at the end, further descriptions on the relevant product pages).
These will be available for local delivery from Monday 6th April.
Produttori del Gavi, Gavi Il Forte
2018, 12.5%, £13.95
2018, 12.5%, £13.95
This excellent Gavi is produced from vines of over 30 years old, trained using the Guyot method to ensure a wonderful ripeness on the vine. Combined with three months on the lees, this helps to develop a great mouthfeel to balance the natural freshness of the wine. Pale yellow colour, intense floral perfume, good minerality and freshness on the palate. Everything about this wine is harmonious, it is really well balanced.
Zevenwacht, The Tin Mine White
2018, 13.5%, £14.25
2018, 13.5%, £14.25
Ripe and exotic, a distinctive, spicy, perfumed wine that is rich and subtly oaked. Complex aromas of dried yellow fruits and spice with a refreshing lime and citrus finish. The blend of grapes complement each other beautifully, creating a rich, rounded, aromatic wine which is great with or without food.
Artadi, IGO Organic Rosé
2018, 12.5%, £5.25 (250ml x4)
2018, 12.5%, £5.25 (250ml x4)
Igo is a Rosé wine with a taste of adventure. It is crafted from aged vines planted in the small town of Artazu, Navarra – home to some of the world’s best rosé – IGO is beautifully balanced, with bright notes of raspberry and pomegranate, 100% Grenache and 100% organic. Each aluminium can is 250ml, making it a generous serve for one or ideal for sharing between two; the perfect accompaniment to warm summer evenings with friends.
Die Kleine Wijn Koop, Eekhoring Rooi
2017, 13%, £14.50
2017, 13%, £14.50
A delightfully supple red which is perfect for supping throughout the evening (or daytime, if you've got a Braai on the go!). Cinsault brings its typically soft red fruit to the table, providing the core of this easy-drinker. Hints of spice and body from the Syrah and Pinotage add a little heft.
Hedonist, Organic Sangiovese
2016, 13.5%, £19.75
2016, 13.5%, £19.75
The fruit for the Hedonist Sangiovese is sourced from the Willunga foothills of McLaren Vale. Following a gentle crushing and de-stemming, the wine is pumped over twice daily for a week to extract colour and flavour, before a month of skin contact to gently extract tannins. Classic Sangiovese notes of cherry and plum, with hints of cinnamon on the nose lead into a similarly intense palate, surrounded by integrated tannins and with great length.
Selvapiana, Organic Chianti Rufina
2016, 14%, £17.75
2016, 14%, £17.75
Bright ruby red in colour, with perfumes of ripe blackberry fruit, red cherry and touch of spice. On the palate it is ripe and juicy but still fine and elegant in the house style, with a tight structure and lifted, floral finish with refreshing acidity. A cracking Chianti from the small Rufina sub-region.
